The
Ponche
The Pouncho (pronounced the "Pount' cho" = "the Point")
was long the refuge of the fishermen of Saint-Tropez. The fishing
nets dried on the quays while women re-meshed the broken nets. A sardine
factory and a warehouse for salting also existed in this area. Today,
it is one of the rare beaches located in a town centre: The beach
of the people of Saint-Tropez and of its regular visitors! It is this
mythical and charming place of Saint-Tropez which gave its name to
our cruising boat "the Pouncho". |

The
Citadel
Its construction began in 1583 under the Duke of Provence who
gave 6,000 gold ECU so that the inhabitants of Saint-Tropez would
fortify their city. They were not very enthusiastic because they
feared the loss of their independence with the probable presence
of a royal authority within its walls. Threatened by destruction
it was then rebuilt in 1607. Today it shelters the Naval Museum
of Saint-Tropez and forms part of the architectural heritage of
the City: priceless treasures are housed there.
